On-Site Volunteering

Our program encourages family interaction during evenings and weekends, thus volunteer opportunities are available only during the work day, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm

For those who wish to do something for our women and children, but can’t make it here during the day, the creativity of many has generated unique ideas for helping. Please see our Off-Site Volunteering opportunities for other ways to help.

The Nurturing Place

Volunteers are utilized to help enrich children’s vocabulary and help feed their imagination through reading; develop gross motor skills by playing; and mentor by giving much needed individual attention.

An important aspect to our volunteer program is that our volunteers come consistently and are flexible to do what is needed at the time they are here to best help the children.

Individuals are needed within our Daily Activity Schedule (slots available between 8:30 am – 5:30 pm)

Corporate volunteer partnerships can be created to suit your workplace structure. Some examples are:

-- One company spends Read Across America Week to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday by sending four volunteers each day from 9 am to 11 am to volunteer in the classrooms for the week.

-- Another company has committed to sending 2 volunteers every other Tuesday (8:30 am to 10 am) and Thursday (11 am to 12:30 pm) to volunteer in the classroom; it is not necessarily the same employee each week, but the time slot is consistent.

-- Another company sponsors an annual field trip with the women or with the children that grants the employees a paid day of volunteering, often giving us a 1:1 ratio of friend to student (Bronx Zoo, Museum of Natural History, Liberty State Park).
