A young woman who has dropped out of high school may not see much hope. Opportunities to receive a quality education, let alone basic skills and a chance for a brighter future, are most likely beyond her grasp. That's where Kenmare High School comes in! 

Kenmare is located in Jersey City, New Jersey and is an alternative high school which offers young women, ages 17-35, who have dropped out of the school system, a second -- or third or fourth -- chance to earn a high school diploma. Approximately 65% of the 70 students enrolled annually are single parents and receive some form of public assistance. Kenmare's curriculum, accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, offers personalized attention, an array of core and elective courses, as well as career guidance, counseling, and parenting classes.

Our curriculum also includes a "Job Readiness Program," which prepares the young women for the realities and expectations of the workplace. As part of the program, students are required to obtain and successfully complete work internships within the community. Working together with Kenmare, women achieve both a serious academic education and the employability skills needed to succeed in today's workforce. Kenmare graduates have gone on to college, job-training programs and full-time employment. 

As a program of the York Street Project, Kenmare strives to give women the educational support needed to move forward.
